Photographer Research #2 – CHEMA MADOZ

Chema Madoz, born in Madrid, originally named Jose María Rodríguez Madoz and is renowned for his black and white photographs. Madoz uses a Hasselbel, which is a medium format camera made in Sweden. In his photographs he creates optical illusions and plays on how the eye sees things, using only simple black and white subjects. His passion in his photos is to create a reality using only the viewers eye. His photographer is a sort of visual poem, it is meant to express ideas that haven’t been thought before. It forces people to engage in his work.

I think that the impact these images have had on the world is that it challenged the way people thought. He used everyday things yet displayed them in a way which makes the audience see them differently.

I chose to research Chema Madoz because his photography instantly grabbed my attention as my brain tried to recognize the different aspects. The incorporation of the audience to add meaning to the art makes Madoz stand out compared to other photographers.
